"Several locals gathered in Battambang on Friday to make the traditional Khmer delicacy Ambok for Cambodian soldiers amid rising tensions with Thailand. Footage shows participants pounding rice grains in a wooden bowl as well as separating their husks. Some can also be seen unloading piles of sacks from a truck. "I have been through war under many regimes since I was young [...] When we have Ambok [...] it helps because it is quick and simple to eat," a local remarked. "If we eat Ambok the size of our palm and drink water, our stomachs will be full for a long time. It saves space for them to carry along," another added. Ambok is a traditional Khmer snack made from young, freshly harvested rice that is roasted and pounded until flat. It is often paired with banana and coconut as a sweet delicacy, or with shrimp as a savoury dish. This comes after tensions flared on the Thai‑Cambodian border last week. Thailand reported nine soldiers killed and four civilians who died during evacuation, not from direct clashes. Cambodia said 11 of its civilians were killed and 74 were injured. US President Donald Trump brokered the original ceasefire, signed on October 26, following the previous border crisis. Both sides have blamed the other for the outbreak of violence and renewed clashes."
