"Cuban citizens expressed their rejection of the statements by Maria Corina Machado, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, about “liberating” the Caribbean island under the assumption that there would be a democratic transition. Residents of Havana voiced their opinion on Saturday about Corina Machado's intentions to "fight for the freedom" of the Cuban people, considering that this represents an intrusion into the country's internal politics. "Maria Corina Machado is the complete opposite of a pacifist. She is someone who even advocates for armed intervention by another country (...) And she is not only satisfied with that, but also calls for armed intervention in Cuba and Nicaragua," said Carlos Rodriguez Blanco, local resident. Cubans also spoke out against Corina Machado, an opponent of the government of Nicolas Maduro, having received the Nobel Peace Prize this year in Oslo. "It is a complete absurdity to have given the Nobel Peace Prize [to Machado]," commented Jorge, Graduate in Physical Culture, who assures that the intention of the opposition leader is for there to be a "military intervention" in the region. After receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Maria Corina Machado gave a conference in which she made her intentions known to "liberate" the Cuban people. "The fight for the freedom of Venezuela is the fight for the freedom of Cuba and the fight for the freedom of Nicaragua (...) We are also going to fight for your freedom," she expressed. Machado's statements have intensified her tense relationship with the government of Miguel Diaz Canel, who has also criticised the Venezuelan opposition for inciting a military intervention with the support of the United States."
