Sindh to establish Disaster Risk Reduction Wing

KARACHI: Advisor to the Chief Minister Sindh on Rehabilitation, Gianchand Israni revealed that Sindh is going to establish a Disaster Risk Reduction Wing. The establishment of a Disaster Risk Reduction Wing will enable pre-disaster preparedness and reduction of losses. He said that disaster management and emergency response systems are being developed on modern lines, said official statement issued on Sunday. Israni said that a media cell will also be established in the Emergency Operations Centre so that timely and authentic information is conveyed to the public in emergency situations. At the same time, a Rescue Academy is going to be established. He said the world-class training, fire fighting, search and rescue in the Rescue Academy. Modern courses in rescue, medical emergency, disaster management will be introduced. He said Rescue 1122 is the nerve centre of emergency services in Sindh. Rescue 1122 will be made a world-class emergency service. He recognised that the rescue personnel risk their lives to save the lives of the public. Group insurance has also been approved for Rescue 1122 personnel. The CM’s Advisor said that a modern emergency response centre will be established in Malir Industrial Park, which will provide services to industrial and residential areas.
