Punjab govt accelerating efforts to uplift sacred sites

LAHORE: With renewed focus on preserving faith, history, and heritage, the Punjab government is accelerating efforts to uplift sacred sites across the province. In line with the Punjab government’s strong resolve to revive and modernize spiritual heritage across the province, Secretary and Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab, Dr Ehsan Bhutta, visited the Shrine of Hazrat Mian Meer (RA) and its adjoining properties to review management, cleanliness, and rehabilitation measures. The visit reflects the clear vision and special interest of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who is very keen to revamp spiritual places and shrines while preserving their sanctity and historical importance. Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Zaman Khan, in line with the directions of the Chief Minister, is fully cooperating with the Auqaf Department and ensuring the provision of necessary funds to complete this important task. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ehsan Bhutta stated, “All instructions issued during this visit will be implemented in letter and spirit.” He inspected the mosque, library, and graveyard of the shrine complex and issued necessary directions for improved management and upkeep. Director Projects Auqaf Rafiq Noor Watoo and other senior officers were also present to review ongoing arrangements and assist in effective implementation of the directives. During the visit, Dr Ehsan Bhutta offered Fateha at the grave of former chief secretary Abdullah Sumbal, paying rich tribute to his valuable services and dedication to public service. Later, the secretary also visited the Quran Board, where he reiterated the importance of cleanliness so that the facility may be properly utilized by visitors and students. He also inspected the auditorium of the Quran Board and directed its rehabilitation and maintenance to make it functional for educational and religious activities. The visit underscores the Auqaf Department’s continued commitment to maintaining the sanctity, cleanliness, and effective use of shrines and associated facilities across Punjab.
