'You are not welcome!' - Clashes erupt as hundreds rally against IDF cantor's performance at Hanukkah concert in Amsterdam

"On Sunday, hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists in Amsterdam clashed with police during a rally against a Hanukkah event hosted at the Concertgebouw, featuring Israel's Chief Military Cantor, Shai Abramson. According to police reports, 22 people were arrested as officers maintained a strong presence to secure the venue and manage the demonstration. Footage shows police removing protesters from the area as demonstrators approached the concert hall. They were seen dragging and arresting individuals and blocking groups from entering the venue. Officers also detained protesters as chants and rallies continued nearby. Demonstrators gathered to oppose Abramson’s appearance while accusing Israeli institutions of responsibility for violence against Palestinians. "As demonstrators are here to strongly oppose this concert by this man who contributes to genocide in Palestine of the Palestinian people in Gaza and in the West Bank," said one activist. "The police [...] have attacked us, have brutally beaten protesters here, and have dragged them out into vans like animals," he added. Another demonstrator said the gathering included Jewish protesters holding an alternative Hanukkah candle lighting. "We are here with many Jewish people who do not agree with apartheid, who are anti-Zionist," the activist said, adding that they wanted to separate Jewish religious traditions from Israeli state policy. This came after, in early November, the venue cancelled the Hanukkah event due to Abramson's involvement. However, following international backlash, they announced that the main event would go ahead without him. Abramson reportedly attended two private events that evening. Unrest followed a shooting in Sydney, Australia, which left at least 15 people dead and dozens more injured. As a result, cities like Berlin, London, and New York increased security measures for Hanukkah celebrations."
