PNP on heightened alert as Simbang Gabi begins

MANILA, Philippines — As part of its Ligtas Paskuhan 2025 campaign, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is now on heightened alert deploying 102,192 police personnel and augmentation units as the annual nine-day Misa de Gallo (Simbang Gabi) begins this Monday night. In a press briefing earlier in the day at Camp Crame, Col. Julius Caesar M. Domingo, chief of the Public Safety Division, said 70,774 police officers would be deployed while the rest would come from the Philippine Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines and local governments. “Actually since last month, we have already been placed on heightened alert but if ever there would be any need to raise the readiness to full alert status, our regional directors have full authority to do so,” Domingo said. “[But] As of this time, the entire PNP is on heightened alert,” Domingo said. Domingo said foot and mobile patrols would be deployed in places of worship, convergence to prevent crimes, especially theft and robbery. Police presence will also be available for road and traffic assistance, convenience of travelers and motorists and patrols to prevent firecracker-related incidents.
