Your pain is our pain - Israel’s Knesset lit in colours of Australian flag after deadly Sydney shooting

"The Israeli Knesset was lit up in red, blue, and white, representing the Australian flag, to show solidarity after a deadly shooting incident that killed ten people during the Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday. "The Knesset bows its head in memory of the victims of the shocking terrorist attack in Sydney and stands by the Jewish community in Australia. Your pain is our pain. We will not give in to antisemites and to terror. They will not defeat us. Am Yisrael Chai," said Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Australian government of fuelling antisemitism, saying he had warned Prime Minister Anthony Albanese months ago that Canberra's policies would embolden hatred against Jewish communities. Australian Prime Minister Albanese has not responded to Netanyahu's latest comments at the time of publication but has condemned the attack as an 'act of evil antisemitism'. He also described the scenes as 'shocking and distressing' and praised police, emergency services and members of the public who intervened during the chaos. Meanwhile, Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned what he called a 'cruel attack by vile terrorists' and urged Canberra to fight against the 'enormous wave of anti-Semitism which is plaguing Australian society'. Australia has some of the world’s strictest gun laws and has largely avoided mass shootings for decades. Authorities say the motive remains under investigation."
