The industry ministry said Monday the free economic zone authority of Incheon aims to additionally designate the southern part of Ganghwa Island as such a zone for biotechnology and physical artificial intelligence (AI) sectors. The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) recently filed the request to add the southern part of Ganghwa Island, a part of Incheon, as a special zone that provides streamlined regulations and financial incentives to attract foreign investment, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources. It aims to attract investment to the region to transform Ganghwa Island into an advanced industrial region housing the so-called green bio industry, which seeks the development of sustainable and eco-friendly biotechnologies, and physical AI-related companies. The IFEZ also plans to build a logistics hub powered by AI and a cultural cluster for tourism on the island, building on the historical sites in the region and Incheon International Airport, the ministry said.
