'Never again would any Hitler or Stalin turn our towns into ashes' - Poland's Tusk as Ukraine peace talks ongoing in Berlin

"Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reminded the nation of its 'historical lessons' and urged self-dependence on preserving its priorities, as he spoke at an event commemorating the 80th incorporation of Western and Northern Territories in Walbrzych on Monday. "Poland flourishing both materially and culturally, but Poland must also be strong, like the Poland of Boleslaw the Brave, so that the dramatic histories that have marked this land never repeat. So that never again would any Hitler or any Stalin turn our towns, our villages into ashes," emphasised Tusk at the event. His remarks came as day two of talks on peace between Ukraine, the US and Europe continues in Berlin. "Poland cannot and will no longer be dependent on the whims of neighbours and allies. We must have certainty and today we are consistently building that certainty," the PM announced. "I mention this not to dwell on the threats [...] but to above all make everyone aware that we have truly drawn the right conclusions from all these historical lessons," Tusk concluded. Talks between the Ukrainian and US delegations began in Berlin on Sunday - with five hours of discussions - with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky finally admitting he would drop demands for NATO membership, but in exchange for US and European security guarantees. Donald Trump, NATO's Mark Rutte - and Moscow - have consistently told him it couldn't happen as part of any peace deal."
