'It's more than bragging rights!' - Ecstatic fans celebrate as Sunderland defeat Newcastle in Tyne-Wear derby

"Sunderland fans celebrated as their side clinched a 1-0 derby-day victory over North-East rivals Newcastle United at the Stadium of Light on Sunday. Footage shows fans lighting flares and chanting before kick-off as police escorted the away supporters to the ground. Chants of 'Sunderlnd till I die' echoed post-match as home fans left the stadium. Ahead of the match, Sunderland supporters were hopeful of pulling off a famous victory against their biggest rivals. "It's obviously an intense local rivalry. We've got a good record against Newcastle in the last few years. We certainly don't want to let that go. The lads and fans are going to be well up for it today," one shared. "This is the one game we have to win, no matter what. It's like our life, beating these. I can’t stand them, I hate them," another added. The thrilling encounter was decided by a single goal, as Newcastle's Nick Woltemade headed an own goal just after half-time to give Sunderland a 1–0 win. "It's more than a point of beating them. It's sort of all these years of torment, of being in the Championship, being in League One, and then finally, first match of the Premier League with them—the win. So it's more than bragging rights. It's pride," a home fan expressed after the match. The victory moved The Black Cats up to seventh place in the Premier League table and maintained their unbeaten home record this season. Meanwhile, the Magpies sit 12th after 16 games."
