Run Santa run! - Thousands of runners paint Mexico City in red during Santa Claus race

"For the seventh consecutive year, the traditional Santa Run 2025 took place on Sunday in Mexico City, a recreational race that brought together participants of all ages in a day that combined physical activity, family gathering and a spirit of solidarity. From before 7:00 am, more than three thousand people gathered to take part in the 5 and 10 kilometre races, as well as a one kilometre walk designed for children, older adults and pets. "It is the seventh edition, and we are looking forward to the second edition in Torreon next weekend, and next year we are going to open a new edition," explained Renata Yanez, one of the event organisers. "The race is amazing, it is a great concept to promote sport among children and families, encourage togetherness and take advantage of the fact that it is Christmas," added Daniela Yanez. Beyond the sporting aspect, the Santa Run 2025 maintains its essence as a charity event, as it supports a civil association that helps and cares for children living on the streets of Mexico City. "We support a foundation called 'Fundacion Somos Luz', which is a foundation for children living on the streets," explained Daniela Yanez. For some participants, the race also represented a personal challenge and an opportunity to enjoy the weather and the surroundings. "You feel an adrenaline rush, I feel motivated and really eager to run right now, with the weather being perfect to run the 10 kilometres," said Jose Luis Baeza, a participant. The Santa Run was brought to Mexico by its organisers after they saw this type of race in Australia during their studies, and they decided to adapt it locally, starting in 2019. However, these events exist internationally and share the tradition of running dressed as Santa as a playful activity, often for charitable purposes."
