US president Donald Trump on Monday baselessly attributed the death of director Rob Reiner to “the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before,” Trump added. Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday with stab wounds, according to multiple reports . While the Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately identify the two people who died in the “apparent homicide,” a family spokesperson has since confirmed their deaths. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the spokesperson said. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.” Authorities have yet to determine their cause of death. One of the couple’s children, Nick Reiner, has been taken into custody and is being held on $4 million bail, online records show. Rob Reiner, a Democrat and liberal political activist, had previously criticized Trump. In 2017, he called Trump “mentally unfit” to serve in the White House. “Donald Trump is the single-most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States,” he told Variety at the Dubai Intl. Film Festival at the time. “Not only does he not understand how government works, he has no interest in trying to find out how it works.” Ahead of the 2024 election, Reiner had warned about the perils of a second Trump presidency. “The question at this election is: Do we want to continue 249 years of self-rule and American democracy? Or do we want to turn it over to somebody like Donald Trump, who has said that he wants to destroy the constitution, go after his political enemies and turn America into an autocracy?” he asked in an interview with The Guardian last year .
