METRO Manila Council (MMC) President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Monday called for the resumption of mall-wide sales by January or February to free the National Capital Region during the Christmas season from heavy traffic. Zamora clarified this position at the December 15 media briefing, aligning his remarks with traffic mitigation efforts led by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. He said that the MMDA policy for the Christmas season discourages mall-wide sales on weekdays because these coincide with regular workdays that already burden major roads. “I would just like to clarify that the policy of the MMDA when it comes to mall-wide sales this Christmas season is not to hold mall-wide sales on weekdays, Monday to Friday, because this coincides with people going to work on weekdays, and it is okay with them on weekends, Saturday and Sunday, because fewer people are working, as long as there is a proper traffic management plan by the malls and this is well coordinated with the LGUs,” Zamora said.
