MANILA, Philippines — A Cardinal has urged the faithful during the first day of Simbang Gabi (Night Mass) on early Tuesday to be welcoming and not to shun people away from the church. During his homily at the Manila Cathedral, Cardinal Jose F. Advincula, Archbishop of Manila, underscored the power of the words “Welcome Home.” He stressed the church was not “for the perfect,” countering some churchgoers who believe that only the “clean” and “worthy” may enter the church, and warned against limiting God’s mercy. “The Lord made it clear that the church is open for all. No one is shunned, and no one is forgotten,” he said in Filipino.
