"Heavy rains hit the Santa Cruz region of Bolivia, causing the Pirai River to overflow and create havoc in municipalities including El Torno and La Guardia. The authorities have reported seven fatalities and twenty people missing. Footage captured on Sunday in El Torno shows the damage caused, including flooded homes and disruptions to transport networks in isolated communities. "I’m very shaken by what happened because I had never seen this," said resident Eldan Chagua. "The loss was only, for now, nothing serious. It was only economic," he added. Among the most vulnerable are youngsters staying at the Nueva Vida Santa Cruz Orientation and Reintegration Centre (Cenvicruz), whose facilities were also damaged. Relatives expressed concern about their well-being, while authorities have deployed an evacuation plan, with 32 people reportedly reached. Alongside the assistance provided to those affected, the mayor of El Torno, Hedilberto Cuellar, declared seven days of mourning."
