'We won't allow fraud just because Trump feels like it' - Libre supporters burn tyres, block highway amid rigging claims and US elex 'interference'

"Dozens of Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) supporters staged a new protest on Monday in Tegucigalpa, denouncing alleged fraud in the November 30 elections by burning tyres on a highway leading to northern Honduras. Footage shows masked protesters blocking a lane of the CA-5 highway with burning tyres, waving party flags, and holding a sign reading: 'Never return to the narco-dictatorship!' During the protest, Libre supporters called for recognition of Jorge Aldana's claimed victory in the Central District mayoral race, challenging Juan Diego Zelaya of the National Party (PNH). "We will not allow fraud to be imposed on us at the behest of the international community, or for anyone to lend themselves to a technical coup against democracy in Honduras - simply because Donald Trump feels like it. We will fight to ensure that democracy in Honduras is respected," said a Libre supporter. The National Police extinguished the blaze with an armoured vehicle, citing the danger posed by nearby gas stations, a commissioner said. The highway blockade comes as Honduras' general election count faces repeated delays and accusations of vote rigging. With 99.80 per cent of polling stations counted, National Party candidate Nasry Asfura leads with 40.54 per cent of the vote, followed closely by Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party on 39.19 per cent, and Rixi Moncada with 19.29 per cent. A similar tyre-burning protest took place last Wednesday outside the National Electoral Council (CNE) headquarters in Tegucigalpa, where party members rejected the election results and accused the United States of interfering in the process."
