"Supporters of Honduras' Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) staged a fresh protest on Monday outside the Electoral Logistics Centre (CLE) of the National Electoral Council (CNE) in Tegucigalpa, denouncing alleged fraud in the November 30 general elections. Footage filmed on Monday shows demonstrators burning tyres outside the electoral compound, chanting and jumping as tensions flared at the scene. Protesters are demanding official recognition of what they claim was a victory by Jorge Aldana in the race for mayor of the Central District, over Juan Diego Zelaya of the National Party (PNH). "And the people have to go out to protest their rights, because these are rights and we were born in the streets and here we will stay and from here no one will remove us," said a Libre party supporter. "We are taking action, as a party, to not allow another fraud. The streets are ours. We will not allow the two [electoral] councillors to try to steal the peace and tranquillity of the Honduran people," said a second supporter. As tensions mounted outside the Electoral Logistics Centre, CNE, councillor Cossette Lopez warned that the situation at the compound had become 'critical,' citing disturbances led by members of electoral boards. She stressed that those involved "are not CNE employees, but representatives of political parties." The tyre-burning protest is part of a broader wave of unrest in the capital. Earlier on Monday, demonstrators set tyres ablaze on a key road linking Tegucigalpa to the country's northern region, while similar scenes unfolded last week outside CNE headquarters. The protests come amid delays in the vote count from Honduras' general elections, which have been repeatedly halted and marred by allegations of electoral fraud. With 99.80 per cent of polling stations counted, National Party candidate Nasry Asfura leads with 40.54 per cent of the vote, followed closely by Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party on 39.19 per cent, and Rixi Moncada with 19.29 per cent."
