"More than 403,000 people have been displaced across Cambodia as fighting along the Thai-Cambodian border intensified. In the Sreysnam district of Siem Reap province, convoys of vehicles carrying displaced families were seen arriving at makeshift shelters, where people sought refuge amid fears of further aerial attacks, as footage shows. A local resident described fleeing in panic as aircraft and drones appeared overhead. "Because of the planes and drones, we had to run and hide in the bushes full of spikes and big red ants. We could not eat any food or drink any water," explained Ev Nhanh "I am very scared," another displaced local expressed. "If it is shelling, it seems less of a problem. However, I am afraid of bombs dropped from planes because you cannot fully hide from them." Scenes in Sreysnam show families resting on the ground, preparing food and erecting temporary shelters on tractors, as displacement continued to spread deeper into Cambodia’s north-west. Some residents drew parallels with past conflicts. "I have experience fleeing through many generations. I fled during the Khmer Rouge regime, and during later wars as well," said Chin Yin, an elderly local. Amid the uncertainty, calls for an end to the fighting were echoed among the displaced. ‘I am calling for a ceasefire so that we can have peace together,’ Ev Nhanh added. Tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border escalated last week following an alleged attack by Cambodian forces that wounded two Thai soldiers, prompting retaliatory airstrikes by Thailand. Bangkok has said nine Thai soldiers were killed, along with four civilians who died during evacuations. Cambodia has confirmed at least 11 civilian deaths and 74 injuries. On Friday, US President Donald Trump said he had ‘straightened out’ the renewed fighting, which followed the collapse of a US- and Malaysia-backed ceasefire agreed six weeks earlier in Kuala Lumpur."
