'Craze is real' - Football frenzy in New Delhi as Messi visits Arun Jaitley Stadium after chaotic Kolkata stop

"Football fans in New Delhi flocked to the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday to welcome Argentine superstar Lionel Messi as he concluded his five-day tour of India. Footage showed supporters outside the stadium wearing Messi jerseys and holding signs reading, among others, 'I skipped school for this, I love you Messi' and 'Messi G.O.A.T India Tour 2025.' Police were on hand to manage the crowds. "I am very much excited, and you can see the crowd - it is all filled with excitement [...] He is one of the greatest footballers on Earth, and he is coming to India, which is a great initiative," expressed a fan. "The craze is real because Messi is the greatest footballer of all time. He has conquered football [...] He completed football, and he is the only player who has completed football at this age. Nobody is close to Messi, and everything he has done for football is just unbelievable," he added. Fans described the chance to meet the football legend as a 'once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,' praising the meet-and-greet event. "Thankfully, this time around in Delhi, it was a well-organised event. Messi was there on the ground for almost 20–25 minutes, and everyone enjoyed it," one noted. Messi's visit to New Delhi concluded his 'GOAT India Tour 2025', which kicked off on Saturday and saw the 38-year-old touch down in Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Messi's Kolkata visit on Saturday at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan was cut short to just 20-25 minutes after VIPs and security crowded the field. Fans, unable to see the players, erupted in anger - throwing chairs and bottles, tearing down banners, and breaking barricades as Messi, Suarez, and De Paul left early."
