'We defend the will of our people!' - Libre supporters in Honduras demand to annul elections over alleged US interference

"Supporters of the Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) protested on Monday, demanding the annulment of elections in which their candidate, Rixi Moncada, was defeated, citing alleged US interference. Footage filmed on Monday shows protesters burning tyres and waving party flags outside the National Vocational Training Institute, where the National Electoral Council (CNE) was reviewing polling station records with reported irregularities. "What we are really demanding is the annulment of all the elections, all of them, whether presidential, congressional or mayoral, because we cannot, in a process, ask to win elections, as that would mean giving validity to the fraudulent elections we are going through," said a supporter of the Liberty and Refoundation Party. The protests kicked off in the afternoon with tyres set on fire on the CA-5 highway, later extinguished by police using water cannons. Protesters then moved to the area around the National Vocational Training Institute. "Our president called on us, saying that the struggle in the streets is ours and we will always have it, and here we will always remain until we defend the will of the people," said another Libre supporter. With 99.80 per cent of polling stations counted, National Party candidate Nasry Asfura leads with 40.54 per cent of the vote, followed closely by Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party on 39.19 per cent, and Rixi Moncada with 19.29 per cent."
