Former chief minister of Punjab Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo has passed away at the age of 86. He had been suffering from a prolonged illness, Aaj News reported citing sources. Wattoo was a senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and served as the chief minister of Punjab three times. Additionally, he previously served as the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. The veteran politician hailed from Haveli Lakha, a town in Punjab. Sources stated that his funeral prayers will be offered in Wasawewala on Wednesday. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have expressed grief and sorrow over the passing of senior politician. Manzoor Wattoo with family join PPP The president stated that Wattoo rendered invaluable services for public welfare and national development in various significant political roles, including his tenure as speaker of the Punjab Assembly, chief minister of Punjab, and federal minister. President Zardari further remarked that as a senior politician, the deceased played a vital role in strengthening democratic institutions and addressing regional issues. He added that the late leader’s wisdom, leadership, and contributions to national solidarity will always be remembered. “May Almighty Allah grant the departed soul a place in His eternal mercy and bestow patience and strength upon the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss,” the president prayed. In a separate statement, the prime minister prayed for the elevation of the departed soul’s ranks and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. He remarked that the services of Wattoo for Pakistani politics will always be remembered. The prime minister concluded with a prayer that may Almighty Allah grant the deceased a place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. Amen.
