"Hundreds joined Sydney's Jewish community outside Bondi Pavilion on Tuesday to mourn the victims of the Hanukkah mass shooting that rattled the country this weekend. Footage captures locals placing bouquets, lighting candles, and embracing as tears flowed in grief. The crowd can also be seen holding portraits of the victims and singing together. Local residents blamed the Australian government for the tragedy, claiming it has turned 'a blind eye to Islamism' in the country. "The Australian government has been weak," one said. "This tragedy is the outcome of that weakness. I think it's tragic, not just for the families involved, but for Australia at large. It's time for our leadership to wake up." Another local described the attack as a wake-up call for Australia and emphasised that the tragedy will not 'diminish the Jewish light.' "This is our way of life and nothing is going to change our way of life. In fact, if anything, it's going to make us stronger. We're going to resist this hatred far more. It has made people suddenly stand up," she stated. "I believe if Albanese doesn't change his ideas on what's happening and actually understands that our country and our safety and our security and our freedoms are at risk, I honestly would like to think that he'll be out in the next election," she added. The Bondi Beach attack left 16 people dead - including one gunman - and more than 40 others wounded, according to officials. Among those killed were Rabbi Eli Schlanger and a Holocaust survivor, community leaders said. Police later identified the attackers as father and son, Sajid Akram, 50, and Naveed Akram, 24. Sajid Akram was shot dead by police at the scene, while his son was arrested and remains in custody. Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned what he called a 'cruel attack by vile terrorists' and urged Canberra to "fight against the enormous wave of anti-Semitism which is plaguing Australian society." Australia has some of the world's strictest gun laws and has largely avoided mass shootings for decades. Authorities said the motive remains under investigation."
