Police official, brother martyred in gun attack in KP’s Lakki Marwat

A police official and his brother were martyred in a gun attack near the Hayatkhel area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday. District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan said it was premature to say anything about the nature of the attack. “The police are trying to ascertain the cause of the incident, whether it is linked to terrorism,” he said. The bodies of Amir Nawaz and Khana Gul, siblings of former district councilor Ali Gul, were transferred to the district headquarters hospital. A police contingent reached the spot after the incident and launched a search operation. Earlier today, a constable and another person were martyred in Salarzai tehsil of KP’s Bajaur district after unidentified assailants attacked a polio team as the nationwide polio campaign entered its second day. On December 1, a cop was martyred while five others were injured in a suicide blast targeting a police mobile in KP’s Lakki Marwat district. In November, three police personnel were martyred as law enforcers responded to a terrorist attack on a checkpost in KP’s Hangu. As militant attacks in KP surge, the provincial police force had asked the government to grant a special allowance to its personnel, which would cost around Rs4.2 billion per month. Pakistan has witnessed an uptick in terror activities over the past year, especially in KP and Balochistan, after the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. With the end of the ceasefire, the TPP had vowed to attack security forces, police, and personnel of law enforcement agencies.
