Ex doctor gets sentence in connection with Hollywood actor´s death

A former doctor charged in connection with U.S. Hollywood actor Matthew Perry's fatal drug overdose was sentenced to eight months of house arrest on Tuesday, reported Xinhua. Mark Chavez, one of the two ex-doctors and one of the five people who have pleaded guilty to giving the actor drugs, was also ordered by judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett on the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to complete 300 hours of community service. Perry, an Emmy-nominated actor best known for starring as Chandler Bing in the U.S. TV series "Friends," was found dead at the age of 54 in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, 2023. In total, five defendants have been charged in connection with the death of Perry, who suffered a fatal ketamine overdose. In his plea agreement, Chavez acknowledged that he and Salvador Plasencia, an ex-doctor sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison earlier this month, colluded to deceive medical ketamine suppliers and illegally distribute the drug to Perry for profit, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday. "Friends," aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004, is widely considered one of the most popular television shows of all time in the United States. The success of the acclaimed series made Perry and his character, Chandler Bing, household names worldwide.
