CM approves framework for promotion of traffic wardens

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a comprehensive framework for the promotion structure of Traffic Wardens, paving the way for promotions to Grade-16 Senior Traffic Wardens and Grade-17 Traffic Officers. This initiative by the chief minister has brought a wave of happiness among traffic officers and wardens, who have expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz for ensuring a clear and transparent promotion mechanism. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, stated that traffic officers will be promoted to the next grade by passing examinations conducted through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). He added that 50 percent of promotions will be granted on the basis of seniority, while the remaining 50 percent will be awarded through the PPSC examination. The examination for the promotion of Senior Traffic Wardens and Traffic Officers will be conducted soon through the PPSC. According to the sources, the upper age limit for officers appearing in the examination for promotion to the post of Senior Traffic Warden has been set at 50 years, while officers up to 52 years of age will be eligible to appear for promotion to the post of Traffic Officer. The sources further added that officers with a transparent service record, completion of relevant courses, and at least a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of second division will be eligible to appear in the promotion examination. It is pertinent to mention that the Government of Punjab has approved the summary forwarded by IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar for ensuring fast-track promotions of traffic wardens.
