‘CM’s policies recognised globally’: ‘Suthra Pakistan’ campaign has now formally begun: Azma

LAHORE: Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari has said that following the success of “Suthra Punjab,” the “Suthra Pakistan” campaign has now formally begun, aimed at making the accountability process more effective and transparent. “Those who claimed institutions lacked accountability have received a clear message, as an institution has set a precedent by penalising its own employee,” Azma said, adding: “Other institutions should now step forward with the same resolve.” Speaking at a press conference at the DGPR, alongside Provincial Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Azma Bokhari said that the people-oriented policies and practical initiatives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif are now being recognised globally. She remarked that in the past Pakistan was often given examples of Europe and the UK, but today the world is citing Punjab’s development model and transparent governance—an achievement that is a source of pride for both Punjab and Pakistan. She stated that Pakistan Army and all law enforcement agencies are firmly confronting the new wave of terrorism and taking terrorists to their logical end. She paid tribute to the martyrs of the Army Public School, saying their sacrifices will never be forgotten. Briefing the media on key decisions taken in the recent Punjab cabinet meeting, Azma Bokhari said that the government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced a new model of governance based on transparency and merit, which is now being appreciated internationally. She added that global institutions have shown interest in the “Suthra Punjab” model and are keen to replicate it in other countries—an honour for both Punjab and Pakistan. The CM further informed media that major reforms have been approved in the inquiry system against officers. Under the new framework, inquiries must be completed within three months to prevent prolonged suffering of innocent individuals and to ensure timely punishment for those found guilty. The minister announced that the Chief Minister has approved the establishment of a second IT City in Rawalpindi. Additionally, international-standard smart traffic lights will be installed under a modern traffic management system, including special pedestrian button systems. To further enhance transparency in the examination system, the cabinet has decided to establish an autonomous and independent body to conduct examinations separately from school administrations, ensuring merit and transparency, she added. She stated that Punjab’s examination system is far superior to other provinces and that no incident has ever occurred where an entire examination centre was compromised.
