Over the weekend, Reiner and Singer were found dead at the home they shared in Los Angeles, California , at the ages of 79 and 69, respectively. Shortly after the news went public, it was revealed that Nick Reiner was in police custody , but it has now been confirmed that he has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Per The Guardian , he is being held without bail. “Rob Reiner was one of the greatest film-makers of his generation. His murder and his wife of more than 35 years Michele Singer Reiner’s murder are shocking and tragic,” the LA county district attorney said in a statement. “We owe it to their memory to pursue justice and accountability for the lives that were taken.” The statement added: “Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes.” Nick Reiner has previously spoken about his issues with substance abuse, collaborating with his father in 2015 on the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which centres around a young man struggling with addiction and homelessness. He and Singer had been married since 1989, after meeting while both working on the rom-com When Harry Met Sally. The couple had three children; Jake, Nick and Romy. Reiner also adopted a daughter, Tracy Reiner, during his first marriage to the actor and film director Penny Marshall.
