Keira Knightley being interviewed on the podcast Dish Keira Knightley has opened up about filming Waitrose’s latest Christmas advert with the comedian Joe Wilkinson . In what has gone on to be one of the year’s most popular festive ads , Keira and Joe recently became the stars of a mini rom-com for Waitrose ’s new Christmas campaign. On Wednesday, the Love Actually star was unveiled as the latest guest on the podcast Dish , where she reflected on working with “lovely Joe” on their ad. Recalling their kissing scene, she explained: “He’s so sweet. He’s got such a large beard that I didn’t get close to his mouth. “Like, as [I was] watching Traitors [with my children, they said, ‘did you kiss him?’. And I was like, ‘kind of’. We sort of bounced off the beard, yeah.” Keira Knightley and Joe Wilkinson in Waitrose's new Christmas advert Joe previously admitted he’d only taken part in two on-screen kisses before filming the Waitrose advert, recalling : “I was like, ‘Keira Knightley has kissed probably, I don’t know, 50 people on screen, I’m guessing. She’s going to be really normal about this’. “Then I just went, ‘I think this is weird, kissing is weird’ and she went, ‘It is, isn’t it? It’s really weird’. It broke the tension.” During her Dish interview, Keira agreed: “I mean, it is weird [kissing on camera]. Especially when you’ve only met somebody two minutes before, and then you suddenly [have to kiss them]. Yeah, it’s quite weird. “Although I don’t remember him being [like] that. I think he was fine with that one.” Keira added that Joe had more reservations about them dancing together in the clip, claiming: “He was not fine with the dancing. And then he really went for it and it was great, you know, but, yeah, no, I feel like he was fine.” As for the kiss, she added: “We were both minty fresh. But like I said, I don’t think I got beyond the beard. It is a thick beard. Yeah, it’s an amazing beard.” Elsewhere in the interview, Keira shared that she hadn’t realised until there was only an hour left of filming that Joe was about to appear in The Celebrity Traitors . “So I didn’t manage to get any gossip at all out of him,” she lamented. “I was just suddenly like, ‘who won?’. And he was like, ‘I signed an NDA. I can’t tell you’.” Last month, Joe spoke about working with an intimacy coordinator on the romantic shoot, joking: “[That was] quite funny because all we were doing, quite honestly, was a light kiss.” When the ad – which pays homage to Keira’s starring role in the festive rom-com Love Actually – was first released in November, Joe joked in a statement: “As you can imagine, it was tough having to eat the delicious Waitrose food and falling in love with Keira, but I just got on with it, like the trooper I am!” Keira also said: “When I received this script where I get to fall head over heels in love over a shared love of cheese, I couldn’t turn it down! “I adored working on this silly, fun and delicious film with Joe and I hope those watching it fall in love too.” Listen to Keira Knightley’s full interview on the Dish podcast .
