"Residents of Nur Shams refugee camp, east of Tulkarm in the occupied West Bank, began evacuating their homes on Wednesday after the Israeli army issued orders to demolish 25 residential buildings. Footage captured on Wednesday shows Israeli soldiers and military vehicles stationed at checkpoints around the camp, with residents being searched as they exit under the supervision of Palestinian Red Crescent teams. Families are later seen transporting furniture and personal possessions away from the area. “This is pain and anguish for all families. This scene is repeated in the Tulkarm camps, Nur Shams, and Jenin Camp, with houses being demolished and residents being displaced. Where will these Palestinian refugee families go, who have worked for many years to shelter themselves with their own effort and sweat?” sad Haya, a resident. Another resident, Salim, said the scale of destruction has rendered return impossible. “The area is a tragedy. Even if people return, they will not be able to enter or live in their homes due to the extent of the destruction. The features of the neighbourhood have completely changed,” he said. The Palestine Liberation Organisation’s Department of Refugee Affairs has condemned the demolition orders, calling them a violation of international law. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department urged “the international community to urgently intervene to stop the demolitions, allow all displaced persons to return to their camps in northern West Bank, and enable UNRWA to carry out its duties and rebuild the camps.” At the time of publication, the Israeli army had not issued a public comment regarding the demolition orders in Nur Shams Camp. The planned demolitions are part of operations carried out by Israeli forces across several areas of the occupied West Bank. Tensions in the West Bank have escalated since October 7. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 759 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers during this period, while at least 26 Israelis have been killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians in the West Bank, according to official Israeli figures."
