'The entire building was on fire!' - Two injured as massive blaze engulfs Dhaka plastic warehouse

"Two people were injured as a major fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at a plastic warehouse in the Chairman Ghat area of Islambagh in Old Dhaka, quickly spreading through a seven-storey building with residential units on the upper floors. At least 11 fire units were dispatched to the scene, bringing the blaze under control after more than three hours. Footage shows firefighters and volunteers working at the site, hauling hoses after the fire was extinguished. Fire officials said large quantities of plastic fuelled the flames, making the fire difficult to contain. "There were large amounts of plastic materials in the area," a rescue worker said. "The fire spread rapidly due to nearby plastic factories and storage facilities. As a result, we had to work extremely hard to bring the fire under control." The warehouse was located on the third floor of the building, with families living on the floors above, witnesses said. The fire spread rapidly, making it difficult for residents to escape. "We were working in the moneylender's warehouse. Then we saw Taslim's house on fire. After the fire broke out, people started running around. We also came out and saw the fire spreading everywhere. But there was no arrangement to extinguish the fire. Then we called the fire service, and they came and rescued the people trapped upstairs," said an eyewitness. Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) reported no casualties. The extent of damage is not immediately known."
