Healthcare boost - Opening of new eastern wing at Al-Shifa in Gaza City

"The new eastern wing at the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City was inaugurated on Wednesday. "This project is considered one of the first rehabilitation projects completed at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, providing services that were urgently needed," said Fadi Al-Dardasawi, Director of MEDICS Office in Gaza Strip. The project was overseen by the worldwide medical organisation MEDICS and footage shows officials during the opening ceremony, and additional shots of locals and doctors inside the hospital and in the newly equipped departments. Ahmed Ja‘rour, head of intensive care said: "As for the surgical department, it includes six operating rooms equipped with all the necessary equipment, in addition to fully prepared recovery rooms. With this, the building’s total capacity reaches 63 inpatient beds, including 13 intensive care beds and six fully equipped operating rooms." However, he said more was still needed to be done. "We need dialysis machines, more advanced imaging devices than those currently available to us, as well as X-ray machines," he added. Al-Shifa Medical Complex had suffered extensive destruction during the war in the Gaza Strip, forcing most of its departments out of service. A number of families were also forced to bury loved ones in the hospital’s courtyards. It continued to receive patients despite severe shortages. Israel and Hamas agreed the first phase of a peace deal in October, covering the ceasefire as well as the exchange of prisoners and hostages, and the entry of humanitarian aid."
