Helsinki’s population is expected to surpass 700,000 in 2026, driven by record migration levels and continued housing development across key urban areas. The estimate comes from a new forecast published by the City Executive Office, which shows population growth has been faster than anticipated in 2025. Preliminary figures suggest that the number of residents grew by more than 11,000 this year, the highest single-year increase in recent history. At the end of October 2025, the city had already reached 694,000 inhabitants.
