"Hundreds rallied in front of the Romanian parliament in Bucharest on Wednesday, to demand the amendment of Justice Laws and condemn corruption schemes in the government. Footage shows protesters jumping and chanting while holding a giant banner bearing the country's name, as well as hand-shaped placards reading: 'All for justice'. Nokia ringtone was played during rally, mimicking calls made by High Court President Lia Savonea to PM Ilie Bolojan, to demand changes in the judicial system. "I am here to demand the amendment of the Justice Laws, for the transparency of the justice, to be a fair election for the heads of Appeal Courts," stated a protester named Carol. "We are here to send a message to the Prime Minister: the justice's problems can't be delayed anymore. I am here along dozens of people to be sure that new laws will soon occur to clear the justice's problems," activist named Tudor added. Protests have erupted in Bucharest and across Romania for over a week, with demonstrators demanding justice reforms to protect judicial independence and prevent abuse of power. It comes after a two-hour Recorder documentary sparked allegations of systemic judicial corruption, including political interference, deliberate delays until cases expire, and the reassignment of judges to secure acquittals in high-profile corruption trials. In response to public pressure, the government said it would analyse the situation. Romania's president Nicusor Dan had announced that judges, prosecutors and lawyers would be invited to an open-ended discussion at the presidential palace on Monday, December 22."
