Fifty shades of red - Natural phenomenon changes colour of beaches and mountains of Iran's Hormuz Island

"The beaches and mountains of Iran's Hormuz Island gained deep red colour after heavy rainfall, creating a stunning scene. Footage filmed on Tuesday, shows red-coloured streams cascading from the rocky slopes toward the sea during the downpour. This phenomenon locally known as 'Kilak' is attributed to the soil rich in iron oxide. Hormuz island, nicknamed 'Rainbow Island', is renowned for its unique geological diversity, containing more than 70 different minerals, while the red deposits remain visible throughout the year regardless of the weather. The beauty of this soil is not limited to the landscape; it is also used in various industries, such as dyeing and ceramics, and even enters the local cuisine as a spice."
