"e 'Integration Bridge' linking Brazil and Paraguay on Friday, describing the project as a symbol of trust and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. Footage captured in Foz do Iguacu shows the bridge opening on the Brazilian side, with officials and guests attending the ceremony. Paraguayan President Santiago Pena was unable to attend due to what Lula described as a scheduling issue. “We decided that I would inaugurate the Brazilian side today and he [Santiago Pena] inaugurates the Paraguayan side tomorrow,” Lula da Silva said. The Brazilian leader stressed that the bridge reflects the relationship among Mercosur member states and the strength of regional cooperation and stability. “This bridge is a demonstration of the trust that exists between Mercosur countries. In other words, we trust each other, we build bridges without fear and without any concern about any political problem between our two countries,” Lula said. He added that relations between Brazil and Paraguay are marked by dialogue and peace, rather than confrontation. “There is no talk of military conflict or wars, but of peace,” he noted. The Integration Bridge, built over the Parana River, connects the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguacu with Presidente Franco in Paraguay. The project is designed to ease congestion on the nearby Friendship Bridge, located around seven kilometres away, which currently handles heavy cross-border traffic. Officials say the new crossing is expected to boost trade, mobility and economic integration between the two countries."
