"For more than three decades, Miriam Valencia has been building a unique Christmas tradition inside her home in Lima, a vast collection of nativity scenes gathered from across the world, now numbering more than 350. Footage filmed on Thursday shows shelves and tables filled with nativity displays of varying sizes and styles, representing countries including Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Italy and, most recently, Hungary. Valencia said her collection reflects global interpretations of the Christmas story. “We have nativity scenes here from Chile, the one from Jamaica, represented by the rasta, the African one, the one from Arabia, the Hindu, the Mexican one, which is the one from abroad that has the most pieces,” the collector said. The tradition began in 1991, following the death of her father just days before Christmas Eve. Valencia said the displays became a way to preserve the spirit of the season and share it with others who visit her home. “It is a feeling, it is an emotion, it is everything. It is preparing the path of our creator and preparing an environment to be able to bring joy to so many people,” she explained. Encouraged by the response from visitors and online followers, Valencia has now set her sights on international recognition. She announced plans to apply to Guinness World Records in the category for the largest number of Christmas nativity scenes displayed inside a private home. Despite suffering a serious fall earlier this week, Valencia said she remains determined to continue arranging the collection, a process that takes around two months each year, insisting the tradition is bigger than any setback."
