Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang on Sunday said the overall arrangement for the Legislative Council elections was very smooth, and it also saw candidates from various backgrounds running in the polls. For the first time ever, the government held 39 election forums for candidates to present their platforms ahead of polling day on December 7. While the forums were broadcast live on RTHK TV 31 and RTHK Radio 1 this time round, Mr Tsang told Commercial Radio the administration welcomed all media groups to stage similar events in future. "The government aimed to allow the public to know more about the candidates by hosting the forums. Based on this premise, I fully agree, support and encourage other media organisations to hold events like this," he said. "As long as they can hold these events in a fair and impartial manner that allows everyone to have a deeper understanding of the candidates, why not?" He said the administration would continue to facilitate arrangements for the forums, saying they helped citizens in deciding which candidates to vote for. Some other new measures also included the set up of designated polling stations for workers such as civil servants, and outreach stations for the disabled and elderly living in care homes. The outcome was very ideal, Tsang said, and the government would come up with new ways to make it more convenient for the public to cast their ballots.
