US Coast Guard apprehend second oil tanker off Venezuela's coast in pre-dawn operation

"The US Coast Guard apprehended the Panama-flagged oil tanker Centuries in international waters off the coast of Venezuela on Saturday - the second such seizure this month. Footage released by Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem shows US helicopters landing on the vessel, which authorities claim had 'last docked in Venezuela.' "The United States will continue to pursue the illicit movement of sanctioned oil that is used to fund narco terrorism in the region. We will find you, and we will stop you," Noem wrote on X. She said the pre-dawn operation was carried out in coordination with the Department of War. It follows the December 10 seizure of the tanker Skipper - which was previously sanctioned for carrying Iranian crude. The Venezuelan government condemned the operation, describing it as an act of 'international piracy' and 'blatant theft.' This comes just days after President Donald Trump ordered a 'complete naval blockade' on sanctioned oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela. Venezuela's navy has since began escorting tankers to counter the blockade. The exact date location and location of the footage released cannot be independently verified."
