"Argentine President Javier Milei criticised Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro on Saturday, labelling him a 'narco-terrorist' during his address at the 67th Mercosur Summit in Foz de Iguazu. "The atrocious and inhumane dictatorship of the narco-terrorist Nicolas Maduro casts a dark shadow over our region," Milei stated. "This danger and this shame cannot continue to exist on the continent, or it will end up dragging us all down with it," he stressed. The Argentine leader welcomed what he described as President Donald Trump's pressure 'to free the Venezuelan people' and urged Mercosur members to align with Washington. "The time for having a timid approach on this matter has run out," Milei said. "We also urge all other members of the Bloc to support this position and firmly condemn this authoritarian experiment." Earlier on Friday, the Trump administration unveiled new sanctions targeting family members of the Venezuelan leader, escalating pressure on Caracas amid ongoing tensions. For months, Washington has increased its economic pressure on Venezuela as part of a broader campaign against drug trafficking, accusing Maduro of illegitimacy and links to narcotics networks. At the same time, the United States has expanded its military presence in the Caribbean, carrying out dozens of lethal strikes on what it describes as 'narco‑boats.' President Donald Trump has warned of land strikes and even refused to rule out a ground invasion. Caracas has strongly denied the claims about drug trafficking and suggested the US is intent on 'regime change.'"
