Users of new Central Kowloon Bypass enjoy first ride

Motorists and passengers who used the new Central Kowloon Bypass on the first day said they enjoyed the route, and looked forward to using it more often going forward. The driver of a special first bus taking passengers on the route said it was a good experience. He said he normally drives routes connecting Kowloon East and West via Lung Cheung Road, and thinks the new bypass is better. "I've driven routes from Kwai Shing to Kwun Tong using Lung Cheong Road. It has more bends and there's a lot of traffic, there's always congestion during rush hour," he told RTHK. "But so far for this new bypass, we can see it's very wide, and the highway is very smooth. I very much look forward to using this route to greatly reduce our journey time." He added that there were extra signs along the route reminding motorists of the various exits. One passenger was excited to be among the first to travel on the bypass. He said he sometimes drives as well, and said he would keep using the bypass going forward. "We can see the road signs are all very clear. Before we entered the bypass, they clearly showed which lanes you should get into, it's not hard for me as a driver," he told RTHK. "This bypass is fast, and the tunnel section is bright. No matter as a driver or a bus passenger, I plan to keep using the Central Kowloon Bypass." Another passenger said he thinks he can easily save 20 minutes on each journey. "When I go from Kowloon Bay to Yau Ma Tei, the bus would need to go on Gascoigne Road, which is very congested," he said. "But what we experienced just now, when the bus went through the tunnel, it already reached West Kowloon. It easily avoids the congested areas." The passenger said he works in Kwun Tong, and hopes the new bypass can help divert traffic and reduce jams in the area.
