3 killed in house fires in Sodankylä, Hamina, Lappeenranta

Three people were burnt to death in three separate incidents of fire in Lappeenranta, Sodankylä and Hamina on Saturday, police said on Saturday and Sunday. One person was killed in a fire broke out at a detached house at Tyysterniemi area in Lappeenranta, a municipality under South Karelia region on Saturday, police said in a press release on Sunday. The fire broke out in the evening and engulfed the house. Rescue service people rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the debris. Police, however, did not divulge the identity of the deceased. Meanwhile, an elderly woman was killed when a fire broke out at a terraced house in Sodankylä, a municipality under Lapland region on Saturday afternoon. The fire occurred at about 3:00 p.m. and engulfed one unit of the house. Firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. They also recovered the body from there. Police said that the deceased was an elderly woman, lived in the house alone but did not disclose her detail identity. Another person was killed in a fire at an apartment building at Hamina, a municipality in Southern Finland early Saturday night. The fire broke out in between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. at Kerrospolku area and engulfed the apartment. Rescue service people rushed to the spot and found the body of the victim there but did not disclose the identity of the deceased. The origine of any of the three fires could not be known and police and Fire Service people are investigating into the incidents to find out the reasons behind the deaths.
