A special counsel team on Monday demanded an imprisonment of eight years for an associate of former first lady Kim Keon Hee, who is currently on trial on charges of embezzlement. Special counsel Min Joong-ki's team also requested that Kim Ye-seong, dubbed the "butler" of the former first lady's family, be ordered to forfeit 430 million won (about $290,000). The associate was indicted in August on charges of embezzling 2.43 billion won from IMS Mobility, a car rental company he helped establish, in collusion with the company's CEO Jo Young-tak. The special counsel team suspects that IMS Mobility unfairly received 18.4 billion won in investments from several companies, including Kakao Mobility Corp. and Shinhan Bank, through a private equity firm in 2023. It also suspects the investments were made in consideration of the company's connection to Kim and the former first lady. The team said in court that Kim Ye-seong spent his criminal proceeds on himself after buying real estate and stocks worth about 3 billion won.
