Metro Manila rail lines announce holiday schedules; free rides continue

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila’s rail operators have announced adjusted train schedules and free ride promotions for the Christmas and New Year holiday season to accommodate increased passenger traffic. The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) will have shortened operations on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. On December 24, the last train will depart Antipolo Station at 8 p.m., while the final trip from Recto Station will leave at 8:30 p.m. On December 31, the last train from Antipolo Station will be at 7 p.m., while Recto Station’s final trip will depart at 7:30 p.m. Regular operations will resume on January 1. The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) also announced holiday adjustments. On December 24 and December 31, MRT-3 will operate on a shortened schedule, with the last train leaving North Avenue Station at 7:45 p.m. and Taft Avenue Station at 8:23 p.m. On December 25 and January 1, MRT-3 will run on an adjusted timetable. The first trip from North Avenue and Taft Avenue stations will be at 6:30 a.m. The last train will depart North Avenue Station at 10:30 p.m. and Taft Avenue Station at 11:09 p.m. Under its regular weekday schedule, the first train leaves North Avenue Station at 4:30 a.m. and Taft Avenue Station at 5:05 a.m., while the last trips are at 10:30 p.m. and 11:09 p.m., respectively. The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) has yet to announce any changes to its holiday operations. Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation continues to offer free rides for selected passengers on MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2. Private sector employees and kasambahay may avail themselves of free rides on December 23; and uniformed personnel, veterans, and their families on December 24. All commuters may ride for free on December 25.
