President Donald Trump has appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special envoy to Greenland. Trump believes Landry will advance US interests in Greenland for national security. Landry previously supported Trump's idea of Greenland joining the United States. Greenland and Denmark have consistently rejected this notion. Greenland's foreign minister has called for restoring trust and open communication with the US.
