Members of the eighth Legislative Council (Legco) term will take their oaths on January 1, in a ceremony that will be administered by Chief Executive John Lee. In a statement on Monday, the government said the oath is legally binding and those taking it must sincerely believe in and strictly abide by the relevant oath prescribed by law. "An oath-taker who makes a false oath or who, after taking the oath, engages in conduct in breach of the oath, shall bear legal responsibility in accordance with the law," it said. The ceremony will take place at the Legco Complex Chamber. The government will publish a list of members whose oaths were determined as valid after the function.
