Easterlies, ‘amihan’ affecting PH —Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Two weather systems, easterlies and the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’, have been affecting the country within a 24-hour forecast period, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday. Weather specialist Chenel Dominguez of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the bureau has not monitored any weather disturbance or low-pressure area forming or entering the archipelago’s area of responsibility. “It would be generally fair weather throughout the day in most parts of the country,” the Pagasa forecaster said. In particular, she said the easterlies—winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid, warm weather—would be affecting the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Quezon, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur, where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would be likely. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon would prevail over Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, where overcast skies with rain would be possible, the national weather bureau said in its 5 a.m. advisory. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, also due to the easterlies, it added.
