KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Women Development Shaheena Sher Ali, on Monday, said that it is a big responsibility for a working woman to go to her workplace and also take care of her family at home, while the role of supporting men behind successful working women is also commendable. “Today, we are here to pay tribute to working women at a national-level ceremony,” the minister said while addressing the National Working Women’s Day ceremony at a local hotel, organised in collaboration with the Sindh Women Development Department and the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women. On this occasion, a large number of women rendering outstanding services in various fields were present. Other prominent figures gracing the occasion were CEO of a private television network Ms. Sultana Siddiqui, Secretary of the Sindh Women Development Department Rashid Ahmed Zardari, Chairperson of the Commission of Status of Women Rubina Brohi and Sheema Kirmani. The Minister Shahina Sher Ali said that the Sindh government is very serious about the empowered role of women. “We receive many complaints about women on the online number 1094. We take immediate steps to resolve them and provide legal and moral support.” She noted that generally only women are compromised everywhere. After marriage, the lifestyle of men remains the same, while women are told about a new environment and are made to start a new life. She said that Sindh has taken the lead in the matter of marriage of girls at an early age. The Marriage bill has been neglected for a long time for legislation, but we got the bill passed with arguments and persistence. She said that today the chairperson of an organization like Fisher-fork Forum is a woman named Fatima Majeed. She pledged that the candle of women’s struggle lit by Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Shaheed Rani Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto will be kept burning. Earlier, Secretary Women Development Department Sindh Rashid Ahmed Zardari welcomed the guests and said that National Working Women’s Day, which started in 2010, is being celebrated in a dignified manner today. Celebrating the day, today, meant to provide awareness to women working in different places about their rights, so we assure all working women that the Women Development Department Sindh is with them in any difficulty. The ceremony was also addressed by CEO of a private TV network Sultana Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Sindh Commission on the Status of Women Rubina Brohi, ASP Nida Junaid, Dr Zeb of Pathfinder and Fatima Baloch of P&D.
