Megan Boxall This December, we’re championing kindness in all its forms through HuffPost UK’s Kindness Advent Calendar. Check back daily (until 24 December) for new stories focusing on how individuals and communities are going above and beyond to help others in their times of need. Megan Boxall began her 5,240-mile journey this October in Suffolk. The 33-year-old financial journalist, who aims to run the British coastline by May 2026, would be the fastest woman to have done so if she reaches her goal – and will have run roughly a marathon every day of the 200-day feat. Right now, the record is held by Lindsey ‘Linzi’ Bell, who managed it in 298 days. Though she first realised she wanted to achieve the goal aged 10 after her uncle Tom Isaacs walked the island-wide path following a Parkinson’s diagnosis, Lindsey is in it for more than the glory. Megan Boxall Megan is raising money for the Samaritans “Running the coast of Britain is something I’ve wanted to do most of my life, but I’ve never had a good enough reason why,” she told HuffPost UK. That was “Until the start of 2025, when I found myself recovering from a period of very intense depression with the help of running and the coastline. “I was feeling so much better about myself and about Britain by running and appreciating the coast in Suffolk, I decided to try and run the whole thing, and spread as much positivity (and awareness about mental health and the Samaritans) while I was doing it.” The runner, who has raised £10,000 for the Samaritans so far out of her £50,000 goal, said the suicide prevention charity’s “volunteers were there for me when the pain in my brain was so intense I couldn’t pick myself up off the floor. I only wish I had picked up the phone to them sooner. “I hope that by talking more about my experiences with Samaritans and raising money while I circle the country, I can help those who are struggling.” Megan Boxall She has run 900 miles so far This month, Boxall has run a staggering 900 miles, or around 34 marathons. She’s jogged through seven counties, taken 1.2 million steps, and drunk 52 hot chocolates to power through it all. When asked how her calves were holding up, she told us: “Better than they were! My body seems to have settled into daily marathon running now, and I’m not feeling too bad (except very tired). “But at the beginning, my calves were in a real state!” Her dog, Shadow, has joined her for some of these miles. And the financial journalist hopes to interview local businesses, showing how important coastal communities are to the economy. “I’m definitely trying to spread positivity. I’ve found that by throwing out as much positivity as possible, I’m definitely receiving a lot of it back,” she stated. “I am also being surrounded by kind people, in person and online, who are rallying around what I am doing and being so generous with their time.” You can donate to Megan’s JustGiving Samaritans campaign here if you like.
