"Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian slammed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's plan to impose sanctions on Chinese military-linked entities at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday. "China has consistently opposed unilateral sanctions that violate international law and lack authorisation from the UN Security Council. We urge Ukraine to immediately rectify its mistake," remarked Lin, emphasising Beijing's active role in mediating peace progress between Russia and Ukraine. The comments came in response to Zelensky's announcement that Chinese-made components were found in a new generation of Russian long-range drones. Beijing has repeatedly stated that it 'strictly controls' the export of dual-use items. Lin Jian also condemned a US Pentagon report alleging that China has deployed over 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) and is unwilling to engage in arms control talks. "Such hype by the US is a consistent tactic aimed at finding excuses for accelerating the modernisation of its nuclear forces and undermining global strategic stability," he noted. "As a super nuclear power, the United States must urgently fulfil its special and primary responsibility for nuclear disarmament [...] and create conditions for other nuclear-weapon states to join the disarmament process," the spokesperson added. US President Donald Trump, in November, said that he would push Russia and China into denuclearisation, suggesting a meeting among the sides to discuss the issue. He also claimed that the US is 'the number one in nuclear power', followed by Moscow and Beijing. China has denied engaging in such talks, stating that 'it's not fair, reasonable or realistic' to pull the country into arms control discussions. China is said to possess from 550 to 650 nuclear warheads by late 2025, according to reports."
