Ankara air disaster - CCTV footage captures glow from crash of plane carrying Libyan Chief of Staff and delegation

"CCTV footage captured a bright flash in the sky after the plane carrying the Chief of Staff of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Mohamed Ali al-Haddad, crashed shortly after departing Ankara on Tuesday, killing all on-board. Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah issued a statement announcing the deaths of al-Haddad and his delegation, including Lieutenant General Al-Fayturi Gharibil, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces; Brigadier General Mahmoud al-Qatiwi, Director of Military Manufacturing; Mohammed al-Asawi Diab, advisor to the Chief of Staff; and Mohammed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub, a photographer at the General Staff Media Office. Al-Dbeibah said the deaths were the result of “a tragic and painful accident while returning from an official visit to Ankara.” Turkish media quoted the country’s interior minister as saying that contact had been lost with a private aircraft carrying five people, including al-Haddad. “We received a report from the aircraft requesting an emergency landing in the Haymana area near Ankara, but contact could not be re-established afterward,” the minister said. Earlier on Tuesday, al-Haddad held talks in Ankara with Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler and Chief of the General Staff Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, focusing on military cooperation between Libya and Turkey.
